Athirappilly waterfalls and Vazhachal rapids are two important tourist destinations in Kerala and lakhs of tourists visit these places every year. Obviously the plastic waste management was an issue here. The Kerala Forest Department thus initiated a Plastic Free Vazhachal Campaign there and started recycling plastic from this area. RRC also collaborated with them in these efforts by sensitizing the tourists on how to be vigilant in a forest or river by not throwing plastic wastes, not feeding animals and by reducing the speed of vehicles while travelling through the forests. During weekends the student groups from various schools came and talked to the tourists using placards and stickers.
